Editing Meds

If a medication changes dosage, unit, frequency, or days, you can quickly change the medication in ResiDex using the "Discontinue and Restart" option.

To Edit a Medication

From the Resident Medication Screen
  • Click on a medication
  • The line will turn black - Right click on the black line
  • Select "Discontinue and Restart"
  • Edit the End Date if needed
  • Enter/Edit the New Start Date
  • Edit the "Days, Dosage, Unit. Route, Frequency, Special Med Instructions"
  • Enter the reason for ending med (optional visibility)
  • Press "OK"
Notes:
The end date is the last day the medication will be given at the dosage on those days.
The New Start is the date the new details will take effect.
You can use this option to put a medication on hold for a known period of time.  Entering an end date with a start date in the future will automatically create that medication to reactivate on the new start date.
When using the discontinue and restart feature, you are automatically:
  • Putting an end date on the current medication line item
  • Creating a new med line with the new effective date
If you have a medication that has a "tiered" dose, you can use this feature multiple times to cause the medication to automatically change. To do this, repeat the above process by discontinuing and restarting on each NEW line item.  You can verify you are on the correct record by looking at the med "start date".
